Growing up, Smith’s parents instilled the values of education and hard work in her DNA. She followed their sage advice, earning multiple degrees in Business and Information Technology and ascending the corporate ladder. Yet, in 2015, she felt a calling for something more.

In 2016, she took the leap into the pest control world, encouraged by her father, Michael Benton, a seasoned pest control technician in Chicago. After a few attempts, she passed the extermination exam, and R.B. Pest Solutions was born, igniting her passion for pest control.

“When we started the company, and we’d go out on jobs, people were surprised to see me actually doing the work,” she shared with the Chicago Defender.

Fast forward seven years, and R.B. Pest Solutions has become the fastest-growing pest control company in the Midwest, snagging government, city, commercial, restaurant, and facilities contracts. They’re expanding beyond the Windy City into Indiana and plotting a third location in town.

But that’s not all — she launched R.B. Premium Products, including the stellar “Bug Strike,” now gracing Home Depot’s shelves. This milestone established her as the sole Black woman-owned product supplier at Home Depot, even gaining recognition at the BET Awards.
